Online Learning
Every year, more and more schools offer more and more classes online. There are some colleges that are based entirely online, because online learning is one of the biggest things in education right now. There are many positives for Internet learning, and a few negatives as well. Among the positives are that students can work at their own pace, including doing the reading, discussions, and tests at their own pace. Students can also participate from anywhere in the world, which allows education to reach a broader and broader number of people.
Generally, it costs less. Some online colleges have reduced prices, or simply charge for the semester, not per credit, which is how regular brick and mortar universities and colleges charge for admissions. But there are some problems, too. For one thing, not all students have the discipline required to do their reading, participate in discussions, take their tests, and do their additional homework without the accountability of seeing a teacher at least once per week. And other people are social learners and need the interaction of their peers in each class period. Depending on how the Internet class is set up, people might miss out on that with online classes completely.
Having said that, it is definitely a good idea to investigate this type of learning if you would like to earn a degree. It’s even better for people who are working on their graduate degree, a second bachelor degree, certification for their profession, or people who just want to brush up on their knowledge and skills in their professional area.
