Bulletin Boards
Bulletin boards are the central place for information in your classroom. The week’s calendar, important reminders, reading goals, testing goals, spelling words, and fun little diversions can all be added to the classroom’s boards. If you are an elementary school teacher, then you probably want to decorate it with fun and festive colors that small children enjoy. If you are a high school teacher, you might choose to decorate your classroom’s boards with the school colors. You can also include picture’s of the students, reminders of class rules, and encouragement for different tasks and different tests.
Another thing to consider is what the class’s theme is going to be. Some teachers like to have an overriding theme for the entire year, and then tie various readings and lessons back to those themes. So a theme involving adventure might include a space shuttle, a pirate ship, or something else that is synonymous with mystery and adventure. By putting it on the class bulletin board, you will always have that reminder so students can refer to it often.
Another fun thing to do is to have the students help you decorate it. A winter’s theme might include a bunch of different cut out snowflakes, and the reminder that every student is unique and special, like a snowflake. A spring theme might include flowers that are cut out from construction paper, or maybe different animals that have been drawn and colored by the students. These are just a few of the many options.
